Contest: God Sigils!
Brush off your artistic side, ladies and gents, because it's time to make sigils for the six gods!
The Nitty Gritty
Gods often have strong imagery associated with them. Symbols help identify where a place or a person places their faith, and we want to continue that tradition in N@W. That means each god must have a strong, symbolic sigil of who and what they are -- something that represents them at a glance. We want you to try your hand at designing them.
However, before you go wild, there are a couple of guidelines.
Sigil Making: What We Want
We want sigils for each god: Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Night, and Day.
First, here's your palette:

That's right. For the sake of simplicity and translation into the game, we want you to use wool colors and only wool colors in your creation.
We also want you to think in terms of primary and secondary colors -- not red-yellow-blue and orange-green-purple, but rather a primary color (likely the field behind the sigil) and a secondary color (likely the sigil itself). You can have more colors, but try to have two strong, defining ones -- this helps in making banners and other such things out of wool that can easily define borders and the like.
Second, we want you to work in two sizes. The first is your normal size -- whatever size it needs to be in order to get your idea across. The second, though, is 5x5. That's right, 5 pixels by 5 pixels. Five wool blocks by five wool blocks. Now obviously it doesn't have to have all the detail, but you should be able to wrangle a very basic facsimile of your design out of those 25 pixels/blocks.
I can hear you all now:
"AUGH! Cyster, how the hell am I supposed to make something awesome out of that?"
The small version has two purposes: first, it's a practical use in game, as anything larger than 5x5 gets incredibly unwieldy to put in most places... and second, it forces you to think simply. Don't over-complicate! Think in terms of simple, clean design.
Please God Give Me an Example
Okay.
So let's say there was a Clockwork God (there isn't, of course). I decide I want his sigil to be a cog. I pick brown for the field and light grey for the cog itself:

Now I need to pare that concept down to its most base components for the 5x5 version. Eventually, I come up with this:

Super simple, but it gets the thought across that it's round and has a hub.
The practical application of this in game would extend beyond what players build. God sigils will be placed on paintings and the like to allow for decoration of areas, like so (except way less half-assed):

What We Want From You
To reiterate, I want you to give me two images. One large one for your sigil and one 5x5 that shows off its simple form. If you don't want to mess with blowing up a small image in your editing program, you can build it in wool instead. (We won't be providing creative for this contest -- pop on SP Creative Minecraft and do it.)
Please don't submit paintings like the image above or anything like that. I just want the two base images from you.
I don't care if you draw the main sigil in paint if you have to. It should be pretty simple.
You can enter as many times as you like, but just one per god, please.
The deadline is SUNDAY, MAY 13TH at 11:59PM PDT.
Who Will Win?
We may not end up using any of the sigils from the contest for a given god -- we don't want to be locked into these selections -- but we plan to award a ticket to folks who do an excellent job, and perhaps an extra one if we end up using 'em.
A Last Disclaimer
At some point we might end up selling N@W S3 merchandise and use the sigils we end up picking. If we do, please understand that all money earned from that is going into keeping the server running and not into our pockets. By submitting these sigils, you give us the right to use it for that purpose.

Re: Current Contest: God Sigils!
Well, you asked. I respond.
I made one for night. I'll probably have one for every god by the time I'm finished.
I used three colors, but two of them are grey, just different shades.
Presenting, the night:
EDIT: I have completed air. It is a bit complicated, but I like the style. Again, 3 colors, 2 of them are different shades of green.

I think It would look better with red than purple. Like red/black for night.

It's alright if we draw it on paper, right?

Thanks for the feedback, but I was basing it off the sky in Cyster's night biome. That being said, if you can find enough people who agree with you I'd be glad to change it. Also, remember there is no dark red, so it would be bright red.

I completely agree. Red/black has a more Nighty feel.

Spoiler:
Is this what you were thinking of? I don't think it looks very night oriented. Evil, yes. Death, maybe. But it seems sinister, not night-ish.
EDIT: If you want the "swoosh" darker, the spikes would have to either become lighter or the same color.

Purple looked a lot more night-y. It gave off a feeling of mystery which, I feel, is what should be associated with Night.

You can draw it on paper if you like, as long as I can clearly tell which wool colors you're trying to use.
(Also I consider purple more night-y than red, myself.)

purple eh?
I've got a night design myself. Some type of back-lit starburst, I used Purple, light purple, light gray, white, and black.
