Why a testing phase?

Before we enter into Season 3, we've found that many of the things that we'd like to do with our server have relied on outside plugins. The problem with those plugins is that often they're not configured to do exactly what we want, or have been abandoned by their creators (meaning we have to update them when a new version of Minecraft comes out). Those sort of things tend to make problems for us, and as such we've decided to code our own plugins for this upcoming season to do exactly what we like!


What does that mean for me?

Well, largely, it means that you'll be playing Minecraft as usual with us, save that there will be objectives and goals in regards to coding (things we'd like you to test) so we can work out any potential bugs in the plugins we have. We may also be changing out maps from time to time, but we'll try and keep that to a minimum. As players ourselves, we know that it kinda sucks to see your creations wiped.

You'll be assigned to a particular nation with a set leader. This is something we're looking to test for the start Season 3, as there will be fixed nations that folks will join according to the needs of population balancing (and now is a great time to test how this process is going to work!), which means you'll automatically have a group of people dedicated to the betterment of your nation. You'll all be working toward the same goals, so it will do you well to get to know the folks around you and generally get a feel for how to work together.

What do I have to do?

There'll be focuses given out on a weekly basis giving an idea of what we need tested most (which you can find here), as well as the mechanical ways of testing them. We'd like you to integrate this testing into your normal play. Part of the testing is making sure that you guys have fun as well as stretching our plugins to see what they can and cannot do.


So, what do I get out of it?

Each well-written, non-duplicate bug report will earn the bug writer a ticket. These tickets will be used for a raffle at the start of Season 3 to hand out mod-delivered goodies. We're looking for things that you guys wouldn't normally be able to do or that will enrich your experience, like admin terraforming tickets, or skin creation, or other neat prizes!.


How is this going to work?

To create as authentic an experience as possible, we're going to be assigning folks to nations in a round-robin method similar to that we've proposed for Season 3, and similar to that which occurred at the beginning of Season 1. You will play with the folks on your team throughout the test phase, including any special events that we generate as a result! This will give you a chance to get to know some folks that you maybe only fought against last season, or meet new people that are brought in through the application process.
